Question wording since October 2008 has been consistent, and as follows:
Compared to a year ago, would you say that the country is economically a lot better off, somewhat better off, about the same, somewhat worse off, or a lot worse off?
(For the purposes of the table above, options 1 and 2 were collapsed into "Better Off" and options 4 and 5 were collapsed into "Worse Off")
Wording was slightly different in the July 2008 poll:
Compared to a year ago, do you think that the country is better off, worse off, or about the same economically?
