This table shows the proportion of non-voting Texans and non-voting U.S. respondents who gave different reasons for not voting.| Respondents were asked to choose from a list of eleven explanations for not voting including (1) Illness or disability (own or family's), (2) Out of town or away from home, (3) Forgot to vote (or send in absentee ballot), (4) Not interested, felt my vote wouldn't make a difference, (5) Too busy, conflicting work or school schedule, (6) Transportation problems, (7) Didn't like candidates or campaign issues, (8) Registration problems (i.e. didn't receive absentee ballot, not registered in current location), (9) Bad weather conditions, (10) Inconvenient polling place or hours or lines too long, and (11) Other. "Too busy" (5) was the most popular reason, chosen by 30.2 percent of Texas nonvoters and 22 percent of all non-voters. "Illness or disability" (1) was second with 13.4 percent of Texas nonvoters and 15.6 percent of all nonvoters. "Transportation problems" (6) was the least often the problem for Texas nonvoters, only 1.7 percent of whom cited it. "Bad weather" was cited least by all nonvoters, only 0.7 percent giving this explanation.
