Job Description: 
Senator José R. Rodríguez (D-El Paso) seeks an intern for the Spring 2018 semester to assist with operations in his Capitol office in Austin. Ideal candidates are highly motivated current students with high academic standings, strong organizational skills and attention to detail, a record of public and/or community service, and a demonstrated interest in public policy. The intern will support legislative staff through policy researching and writing, and meeting with constituents and stakeholders, as well as assist with office operations, including taking highly detailed phone messages and managing office correspondence, among other duties. This is an unpaid internship and the student is encouraged to seek class credit. The internship will run from early January to late May 2018, exact start and end date negotiable. The internship is part time; The intern will be asked to work at least 16 hours a week, and will set a regular schedule in blocks of at least three hour increments within office hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Rodríguez and how the applicant's experience prepares them to be a successful intern, and 3) a short writing sample, ideally less than 10 pages long on a topic relevant to public policy.
