OVERVIEW: The Office of Senator Nathan Johnson seeks two (2) constituent services interns. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about the legislative process while playing a significant role in administrative support, correspondence, data entry, records retention, and research state issues. College students from all disciplines are welcome to apply. The position will require working in the office and, on occasion, remotely. Access to a phone, camera, and laptop is needed. WORKING HOURS: A minimum of 15 hours per week must be scheduled during regular business hours, Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. JOB DESCRIPTION: The Constituent Services Intern will report to the District Director and Deputy District Director. The role of an intern is to serve the public while learning about the inner workings of a state senator’s office. OTHER: This is an unpaid position. College credit may be available on the requirements of your college or university. REQUIREMENTS: This internship is an entry-level position Excellent understanding of online organizing communications Critical and strategic thinking Strong technical writing skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Review and manage Senate District 16 emails and log correspondence. Answer incoming phone calls and disseminate as needed to staff. Become well-versed in the member’s legislative priorities and viewpoints on various subjects related to Senate District 16 or the State of Texas. Interns may be asked to attend staff meetings and any other events directed by senior staff. Assist with additional administrative needs (scanning, printing, etc.). Provide office support; greet visitors; answer phones Assist with ceremonial items such as resolutions and certificate requests. Support District Director and Deputy District Director. Monitor, track mail, and prepare responses. Assist with events as needed. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: An ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be knowledgeable in various computer programs, have research knowledge, possess excellent attention to detail, be willing to learn, be flexible, and work independently.
