Job Description: 
Public Blueprint is an Austin, Texas-based public affairs firm specializing in government relations, communications, digital and grassroots advocacy. Through a combination of deep relationships in and around the Texas Capitol, unrivaled work ethic, and a passion for innovation, we provide our clients with the counsel, planning, and execution necessary to achieve their public policy goals. Here’s what you should know if you want to be a Copywriter at Public Blueprint: ‪As a copywriter, you will be the voice of our clients and their initiatives and you will collaborate daily with Public Blueprint team members. We’re looking for a creative and adaptable individual who can craft compelling short- and long-form copy across the spectrum of branding, advertising and public affairs efforts for our clients—from print, to digital ads and social media, to event marketing and beyond. One day you may be writing a new client tag line, and the next day, writing website copy for another. You’ll join a creative team that’s fast-paced but knows how to have fun. The entry- to mid-level position requires you to be able to dig in and learn new industries and issues, and enjoy doing it; conceptualize and write original and differentiating content, and knock our socks off with it; present and communicate concepts and copy to internal and client teams, and do it with confidence; and proofread and edit like a pro—no one likes a typo. You’ll help define tone, style, structure and voice for clients, collaborating directly with the digital, design, web development, grassroots and lobby teams. The right candidate has a knack for balancing competing projects and timelines, is a natural collaborator, thrives in a start-up environment, and has at least a basic understanding or passion for the political process and public policy. You’ll have to be able to take a blank piece of paper and turn it into something powerful—we don’t just want someone with a command for the rules of language, but someone with a command of language itself. Finally, you’ll contribute to the culture of our team, helping us elevate the creative and quality standards of our work every day. The ideal person has: Excellent writing skills for creating superior short- and long-form copy for both print or digital—from scratch; The skill to take diverse and often complex ideas and develop straightforward, compelling copy that captures a client's voice; Strong research chops to find compelling data from which to craft our client’s messages; The ability to bring a client brand voice to life, utilizing the right attributes at the right time, and conveying the appropriate tone throughout a campaign; Empathy to their writing with an ability to see things from their audiences’ point of view and can lead them to action; Flexibility to work on a wide range of projects, from conceptual work to the more day-to-day quick-turn copy deliverables; The professional resilience to respond to constantly changing requirements, deadlines, and insights, and the ability to think and plan ahead; The independence to be a dependable self-starter but enjoys collaborating with a close-knit team; Superior organization skills and the ability to juggle multiple clients and personalities; The resiliency to work under tight deadlines and occasional high-pressure situations; A passion for new business work, including proposals and pitches; Direct experience or can demonstrate the ability to write for public affairs and/or political campaigns; and A “big picture” mindset with ability to look beyond a specific piece or project and see the larger campaign. Finally, social media community management and ad buying experience is a major plus. On any given day you might: Develop and work to execute copy for online PR and advocacy strategies; Participate in brainstorm meetings with internal team and clients; Draft content calendars for social media distribution and evaluate campaign success; Research and write for one pagers, marketing collaterals, message maps, and more; Write, generate, coordinate and distribute regular electronic marketing communications; Write and update Public Blueprint's social channels and help curate thought-leadership e-mail blasts and blog posts; and Do absolutely anything necessary that may arise to ensure the continued success of our small, thriving firm (we all wear a lot of hats and do what needs doing; no one here is above any task, big or small!). You must bring: High energy with a can-do and collaborative attitude, and a willingness to learn; Bachelor’s degree (Soon-to-be-grads please don't hesitate to apply!). Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time position in Austin, Texas only. At this time, we are not accepting contract, remote, freelance, or other part-time work. Salary commensurate with experience, plus commission and bonus opportunities. Downtown office with parking.
