Job Description: 
COMPANY DESCRIPTION: The Texas Senate is one of two houses comprising the Texas Legislature. The legislature meets for 140 days every two years. The next session begins on January 8th, 2019 and ends on May 27, 2019. DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: The intern will work under the supervision of Senator West’s general counsel and legislative director. Duties will include: attending committee hearings, and summarizing testimony, with a focus on the State Affairs Committee or the Health and Human Services Committee; drafting potential questions for use in committee hearings or on the senate floor; assisting with speeches; meeting with constituents and lobbyists; researching and proposing potential legislation; legal research and writing as needed; bill analysis; responding to constituent inquiries; and general office duties. DURATION OF POSITION: Spring 2019 (January - May). POSITION REQUIREMENTS: · Some familiarity with the Texas Legislature. · Good research and writing skills. · Ability to work under pressure and on deadline. · Ability to work with minimal supervision at times. OTHER: · Hours will be determined by the needs of the senate office, the intern’s class schedule, and any requirements they may have to meet to receive credit, if available.
