Job Description: 
We are looking for a temporary part-time intern for legislative assistance for the 86th Legislative session. This opportunity will give you an introduction to the legislative process from the private sector. Interns will learn the legislative process from start to finish. The internship is part-time through the end of May 2019. The intern’s day-to-day activities will be dictated by what the day calls for; including monitoring legislation, data entry, filing, errands, proof reading, and whatever else needs to be done. The intern will play a critical role in both client work and internal projects, often involving research and writing components. Candidates must have a strong work ethic, an interest in Texas politics, and a willingness to accept responsibility and contribute immediately. The position will take away an increased knowledge of our state legislative process and work with seasoned professionals providing increased knowledge base for future opportunities. Potential candidates must have a strong academic background, be able to manage multiple projects at a time, and maintain a professional and positive attitude. The ideal candidate will be able to commit a minimum of 20 hours a week to the team but for the schedule is negotiable for the right candidate and circumstance. We understand this intern will also be a student and that is first priority. Chad Cantella is a principal at Texas Star Alliance, an integrated public affairs firm, representing clients before the Texas Legislature, state agencies, and related bodies. Basic Duties and Responsibilities: • Conduct research on legislative issues, • Monitor legislative priorities for the association, • Summarize legislation that is being monitored, • Appropriately handle company files and data, • Proficient in general office duties, Candidate Characteristics • Has a good understanding of, and a keen interest in the legislative process, • Has experience working in a fast-paced environment and meeting deadlines, • Has some experience in an administrative/supportive role, • Can work quickly and accurately under pressure, • Pays close attention to detail and is extremely organized and efficient, • Excellent communicator, verbally and in writing, • Moderate to proficient knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite Physical Requirements: • Ability to operate a computer through keyboard and mouse, • Ability to operate standard office equipment, Ability to lift at least10 pounds, • Visual acuity required to view a computer screen, and to read documents • Additional Requirements: • Flexibility in work schedule required to accommodate occasional evening or weekend meetings. • Strong organizational skills with the ability to track multiple projects. • Ability to work in a team environment.
