State Representative John Turner is seeking applicants for a Legislative Internship at his Capitol office during the Spring 2020 semester. Driven by values of public service, professionalism, and mentorship, the internship program will give interns specialized trainings in legal/legislative research and writing all while enjoying a first-hand look at the politics and policies that govern Texas. This internship will offer students the opportunity to advance their interest in public policy and provide valuable employment experience. Benefits: Interns will have many opportunities for professional development and education. ❖ Exposure to the policymaking process in Texas and mentorship ❖ Networking, exploring future opportunities, and career advancement ❖ Course credit, if offered by your school Responsibilities: Interns may be asked to take on the following tasks: ❖ Draft one-pagers and memos on policy issues and legislation; ❖ Draft constituent letters and facilitate constituent correspondence; ❖ Assist with talking points, press releases, and other documents; ❖ Answering phones and greeting visitors; and ❖ Additional duties assigned as appropriate. Qualifications: Strong applicants will have the following qualities and skills: ❖ Currently enrolled in college or university; ❖ Punctuality, an attention to detail, and strong organizational skills; ❖ Strong work ethic and good communication skills; and ❖ A passion for public service and the legislative process.
