Public Policy Intern

Texas Neighborhoods Together (TNT), a small, nonprofit, all-volunteer federation of leaders of local coalitions of neighborhood-based organizations, is looking for an intern interested in learning and practicing techniques of advocacy during the 85th Legislative session that will commence in 2017. This internship includes valuable hands-on experience in working on political issues important to the advancement of neighborhood integrity and self-determination throughout the state. Responsibilities: • Develop and maintain relationships with State Representatives, Senators, committees and their key staff members on behalf of TNT • Gather information and monitor all forms of media on topics pertinent to TNT’s legislative agenda • Develop and maintain a database for purposes of communicating with neighborhood interests throughout Texas • Help track legislation and communicate with TNT leaders on its progress through the legislative process; advise of upcoming committee meetings • Distribute official TNT communications as directed • Assist TNT leaders in working in collaboration with its partner groups, including Texas Municipal League and others Requirements Students applying for this internship must have strong communication skills, both written and oral, and solid understanding of social media. Only interns proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications should apply. Out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed with appropriate documentation and pre-approval. Hours are flexible and to be determined in cooperation with TNT leadership.
