Position: Research and Policy Intern Description: The Texas Black Caucus Foundation, working with policymakers, researchers, educators, community groups, and others, conducts data-driven research, and provides analysis to educate elected officials, media, and concerned Texans to help create lasting solutions regarding issues caused by racial disparities in health, education, housing, employment, representation, commerce, technology, and the administration of the criminal justice system. Throughout the internship program, our interns will learn about public policy, grow in their professional development, and gain insight into policy research on intersectional issues that impact racial equity. TXBCF interns work under the supervision of our Policy Director and in collaboration with all staff to assist in a number of activities — including providing research, outreach, and administrative support — to help further TXBCF’s mission and goals. Responsibilities:  Assist with a broad set of activities that support policy advancement at the state level, such as legislative research, legislative briefing/hearings attendance and interacting with legislators, community leaders, and various other stakeholders.  Complete research tasks as assigned, such as conducting literature reviews and background research; finding, organizing, and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data; and preparing memos, briefs, reports, and presentations.  Other administrative duties as assigned. The ideal candidate is:  Motivated, flexible, organized  Able to multi-task and navigate between demanding and sometimes tedious work of research, and the pace and energy of legislation  A strong writer, reader, and critical thinker, with interest in learning how to improve their writing to be accessible for multiple audiences  Committed to building analysis across issue areas  Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel).  Dedicated to building relationships with leaders and stakeholders. We are looking for someone who will take initiative in defining what they want to learn, approach work challenges with a problem-solving mentality, and who will speak up when there are gaps in their work.  Able to work independently and in a team  Passionate about, and has already devoted time and effort to, social justice. Start Date: Spring Semester Hours: 20hrs/week, preferably twice a week in the office. Up to 10 hours can be completed at home. Compensation: This is an Unpaid/Volunteer internship
