This table reports Texas state expenditures by major function of government. Function categories are listed in column one. Column two reports the 2004 fiscal year total expenditures. Column three presents each category as a percentage of the total. Finally, column four reports the change (increase or decrease) in spending in each category from fiscal year 2003 to 2004. Employee benefits, education, and public safety and corrections have suffered decreases while other categories saw growth, notably natural resources/recreational services which grew by more than thirty-eight percent.
