This table identifies the top fifteen Texas-based soft money contributors in the 2001-2002 election cycle, ranked in descending order. Soft money refers to funds raised in unlimited amounts by national party organizations outside the limits and restrictions of the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA). Column 1 identifies the rank and column 2 identifies the organization The third column reports each entity's total soft money contributions while columns four and five report how much of this total went to Democrats and how much went to Republicans. Below the listings are grand totals for each of the columns as well as the sum total of all Texas soft money contributions. The top fifteen contributors accounted for about half of all contributions, though there were literally thousands of different contributors in all.
