"Judicial partisanship" is an oxymoron. That is the view of the vast majority of Houston attorneys. According to a member survey by the Houston Bar Association, as the pie chart on the left shows, only sixteen percent of these judicial insiders and campaign contributors want to preserve partisan election as the method for selecting Texas judges. Though no particular plan for change wins majority support, as the pie chart on the right shows, the combined support for either non-partisan election or merit selection--eighty-eight percent overall--is a clear verdict that attorneys see judicial partisanship as a serious judicial defect if not a crime against justice.
