This table lists the different types of corrections facilities that are part of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice corrections system. It also lists the number of each type of facility. Facilities range in type from institutional division facilities--the state's primary prisons--to more specialized facilities for medical or psychiatric treatment and treatment for substance abuse. The state system also includes private, generally lower security prisons and privately as well as publicly operated state jails.
