This table outlines the internal committee organization of both chambers of the Texas Legislature. Both chambers have permanent as well as temporary committees. Permanent committees divide between substantive committees which deal with the policy matters before the legislature and procedural committees which have responsibility for various parts of the legislative process itself. Temporary committees divide between chamber-only and joint committees. Chamber-only committees are those each chamber creates for itself to study special issues or to work on issues between legislative sessions. Joint committees include members from both chambers and, often, members of the public as well.
