This slide describes the middle or county level of party organization. Texas is divided politically into 254 counties. Temporary party organization at this level takes the form of the county or district convention made up of delegates from the precincts each county. The county convention selects delegates to the state convention, one for every 300 votes in the county for the party's gubernatorial candidate in the last election. Counties with multiple state senate districts, generally urban counties like Harris, Tarrant, or Bexar, hold district conventions. The county executive committee and county chairperson represent permanent party organization at the county level. The county executive committee consists of all precinct chairs in the county. It runs the county convention and primary elections in the county the results of which it certifies to the state executive committee. The county chairperson is an eligible voter elected on the primary ballot for two years who chairs the county executive committee and generally represents and promotes the party.
