This table shows the growth since 1974 in the number of latino elected public officials in Texas. Latinos have made inroads in elected public office in Texas at every level, most quickly at the county and local levels of government where there are vastly more offices filled through election than at the state level. However, the number of latino elected officials as a percentage of all elected officials remains low--well below the approximately thirty-two percent of the Texas population with latino roots.
