This horizontal bar chart shows the top fifteen non-party institutional donors to major party candidates for non-federal statewide or legislative office in Texas in the 2001-2002 election cycle. They range from the top donor, Texans for Lawsuit Reform, a leading advocacy group in Texas for tort reform and caps on damage awards in civil litigation, which contributed more than $1.9 million, to the corporate law firm of Locke, Liddell, and Sapp which contributed nearly $380,000. These fifteen contributed almost fifty-seven percent of the $17.9 million given by the top fifty institutional donors. To make it to the top fifty, donors had to contribute a total of at least $180,000.
