League of Women Voters of Texas
Job Location (Other):
1212 Guadalupe Street, Suite 107
The mission of the League of Women Voters is: Empowering Voters, Defending Democracy. The League is a 100 year old legacy organization that encourages civic engagement and participation by providing community education and legislative advocacy. The League is non-partisan --we do not support or oppose any candidates or parties. We are well known for our nonpartisan voter guides where all candidates running for office may explain their positions on issues of concern to the community. The League is looking for 4 or 5 smart, self-motivated student interns who want to empower voters and defend democracy. We have a range of activities to suit the individual intern’s skills and interests. We plan for our interns to have real life experiences that build on their academic skills. With the Texas Legislature in session this spring, we will be focusing on advocating on policy issues during the Texas Legislative session. Our interns will get a wide sampling of tasks and activities, not doing busy work. You will be on the front lines with us as we make democracy work in Texas. Interns may… - Create “call-to-action” alerts to send to members - Partner with one of our Issue Chairs to follow/track legislation - May give testimony at the Texas Legislature (depending on the student’s schedule and hearing dates/times) - Write weekly Capitol Action Report - Write monthly Action News! newsletter to our supporters - Create and publish social media post that explain policy and legislation and/or calls to action.
While this is not a paid internship, our interns do have a lot of fun doing meaningful work. Interested students, please send resumes and class requirements to: Aileen McMurrer at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than February 1st. If the intern is not doing this for class credit, 3 references are required.
