Job Description: 
Founded in 1973, the Texas Legislative Black Caucus (TxLBC), which is composed of all 20 African-American Texas State House and Senate Members, serves as the group’s membership services and logistical arm, and works to support our state lawmakers with communications, policy, and legal resources. Rep. Ron Reynolds (Missouri City) currently serves as Chairman for the 88th Legislative Session. For more information, you may visit http://txlbc.org/. The TxLBC is seeking a Communications & Press Director to support our work this session. This position is a short-term, in-person employment position based in Austin, TX that will end on June 30, 2023 with possible extension to include one or more special sessions. The Communications Director will be supervised by the Executive Director. Duties and Responsibilities: ● Coordinate logistics for media interviews, press conferences, and other press events related to TxLBC’s legislative work; ● Help track news coverage, pull media clips, and help maintain our press contacts lists related to TxLBC’s legislative work; ● Draft and edit written materials for the press related to TxLBC’s legislative work, including press releases, statements, op-eds, fact sheets, talking points, and more; ● Organize a comprehensive social media calendar across multiple platforms; ● Planning, writing, and managing e-newsletters and social media toolkits. Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in relevant field; prior experience in politics preferred, but not required; excellent writing skills; social media management and graphic design capabilities; detail-oriented; ability to work collaboratively. Salary & Hours: This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) to be paid at $5,000 per month. Due to the nature of the legislative session, non-traditional work hours are to be expected.
