State Representative Cecil Bell, Jr.
Representative Cecil Bell, Jr. is seeking an applicant for a full-time PAID Legislative Aide position for the 86th Regular Session of the Texas House of Representatives in Austin, Texas. This position will begin early October 2018 and last until June 2019. The Aide shall: • answer the phone and greet visitors; • manage constituent correspondence on legislative issues; • check and sort mail; • collect invitations and maintain the Representative’s schedule; • research and draft reports for the Representative regarding legislation in assigned policy areas; • prepare the Representative's bills for drafting and work with Legislative Council, state agencies, and interested parties on bill language; • request hearings for bills and prepare bill analyses, when requested by committee; • prepare bill books/files for each of the Representative's bills, including bill analyses, talking points, floor speeches, etc.; • monitor committee hearings and track relevant legislation; • serve as the Representative’s liaison in meetings regarding legislation and policy issues assigned to them and direct the legislative intern on data entry of all documents provided during visits and meetings; • assist the chief of staff in preparing daily floor packet for Representative; and • track the Representative's voting record. Applicants should have strong research and writing skills, well-developed organizational and interpersonal skills, solid computer skills, and effective communication skills. Applicants should also have an avid interest in government and the legislative process. Session experience preferred but not required.
