Job Description
Position Overview: The Government Affairs Intern will play a critical role in supporting TAHC&H’s advocacy efforts during the legislative session and beyond. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in government relations, policy analysis, and grassroots advocacy within the healthcare sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in public policy, legislative processes, and the healthcare industry. Key Responsibilities: Legislative Research & Tracking: Monitor and analyze proposed legislation and regulatory changes that impact home care and hospice services in Texas. Maintain up-to-date records of legislative activity and provide summaries and reports to the Government Affairs team. Policy Analysis: Assist in the evaluation of current and proposed policies to determine their potential impact on the home care and hospice industry. Prepare briefs, memos, and presentations to inform association members and support advocacy efforts. Advocacy Support: Help coordinate and participate in meetings with legislators, their staff, and other key stakeholders. Assist in organizing advocacy events such as legislative visits and hearings. Prepare materials such as fact sheets, talking points, and testimony for these events. Grassroots Engagement: Support efforts to engage and mobilize TAHC&H members and the broader community in advocacy initiatives. This includes drafting communications, managing social media campaigns, and assisting with member outreach. Event Planning & Coordination: Assist in the planning and execution of special events related to government affairs, including advocacy days, lunch and learns, and conferences. This may involve logistical support, speaker coordination, and attendee communication. Administrative Support: Provide general administrative assistance to the Government Affairs team, including scheduling meetings, maintaining databases, and handling correspondence. Qualifications: - Currently enrolled in an under- or graduate program, or graduate in Political Science, Public Policy, Social Work, or a related field. - Strong interest in government relations, public policy, and healthcare. - Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills. - Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail. - Ability to work independently and as part of a team. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with social media platforms. - Previous experience in a legislative office, campaign, or advocacy organization is a plus, but not required. Learning Opportunities: - Gain insight into the legislative process and how advocacy can shape public policy. - Develop a deep understanding of issues facing the home care and hospice industry in Texas. - Build professional relationships with policymakers, industry leaders, and advocates. - Enhance skills in research, analysis, communication, and event planning.
