Job Description:
Temporary Position – Summer Internship position will begin June 1, 2020 and end on August 14, 2020 (40 hours per week).

DIVISION: Data Analysis and Transparency - Natural Resources
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs highly complex (senior-level) clerical work and research in areas such as projects related to natural resource research and policy. Assists division staff with required and ongoing division projects through research, writing, data analysis, data testing, and other assigned duties. Potential for off-site training depending on divisional needs. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.
WORK HOURS: 40 hours a week between the hours of 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend hours. Hours may change based on business needs; especially during legislative sessions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Performs research on topics related to specific plants and wildlife, including grassland and East Texas species; attend meetings, contribute content to print and web publications, maintain databases, compile educational materials, and compose summaries and briefing memos.
-Performs hands-on data analysis and/or ArcGIS mapping work to support management of the species research program.
-Ensures accuracy, consistency and effectiveness by reviewing, editing and proofing data and various reports and materials for internal and external use.
-Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, or recent graduate
PREFERRED EDUCATION:
Recent graduate or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with a minimum of 60 semester hours completed in environmental or natural resource management or policy, ecology, environmental science, geography, media or related fields of study.
EXPERIENCE:
Some professional or academic experience in environmental or natural resource management or policy, ecology, environmental science, geography, media or related fields.

This position requires extensive computer, telephone and client/customer contact. Prior interns have primarily performed sedentary office work; however, mobility (standing and walking) is routinely required to carry out various duties. This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and reach as needed to perform filing and other similar routine office duties. Some lifting and/or moving, up to 35 lbs. of office equipment and/or materials may be required on a limited basis. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements are required for reading printed materials and computer screens and communicating with internal and external customers.
