Texas AFT is looking to help train the next generation of labor & education policy activists. We seek a hardworking, self-starter committed to helping improve the lives of our members and the families and students we serve through public policy and legislative activities at the state level. Assignments will range from administrative tasks to monitoring legislative hearings, and then some. Interns are expected to work an average of 20 hours a week, and some evenings and weekends will be required. Qualifications: ● A demonstrated commitment to and understanding of Texas AFT’s mission of advocating for public education employees and the public schools and colleges of Texas; ● A demonstrated commitment to the Labor Movement and its values of social justice, economic fairness, access to public services- including education, and democracy in the workplace; ● At least 60 hours of college credit (Note: This internship is meant for students.); ● Strong writing & analytical skills; ● Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, and ability to complete projects under time constraints; ● Ability to be self-motivated and adaptable, and to work both independently and as part of a team; and the ● Ability to communicate with, understand and anticipate the diverse concerns of people of varied economic, racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds and identities. While legislative experience is not necessary, the successful candidate must have previous paid work experience.
