Respondents were asked: "What is your opinion on gay marriage or civil unions?" Response options included: "Gays and lesbians should have the right to marriage. Gays and lesbians should have the right to civil unions but not to marriage. Gays and lesbians should not have the right to civil unions or marriage. Don't know." Cross tabulation by party ID uses the PID3 question, in which respondents were asked whether they consider themselves to be a Democrat, Republican, independent, other, or not sure. Those who responded other and not sure are not included.
