Results shown here are only for respondents who indicated that they plan to vote in the 2010 Republican primary. Respondents were first asked: "Thinking about the 2010 primary elections in Texas, do you think that you will: 1) definitely vote in the Republican Primary; 2 probably vote in the Remocratic Primary; 3) definitely vote in the Democratic primary; 4) probably vote in the Democratic primary; 5) I only vote in general elections; 6) Don't know. Those respondents who answered that they either probably or definitely plan to vote in the Republican primary were then asked: "If the 2010 Republican Primary election for governor were held today, would you vote for Rick Perry, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Leo Berman, someone else, or haven't you thought about it enough to have an opinion?"
The party identification question was asked in two parts. First, respondents were asked if they consider themselves a Democrat, Republican, Independent, or Other. If they indicated that they are Democrats or Republicans, they were then asked if they consider themselves to be strong Democrats (Republicans) or not so strong Democrats (Republicans). If they indicated that they are independents, other, or that they were not sure, they were then asked if they lean toward one party or the other or are pure independents. This table shows response breakdowns only for those respondents who answered that they consider themselves Republicans, or respondents who answered that they consider themselves independents but who lean Republican. The vast majority of respondents who answered that they plan to vote in the 2010 Republican primary come from these two groups.
