This table presents data collected by Taxpayers for Common Sense on earmarks received by each state in the 2004 federal budget appropriations process. States and other recipients are ranked by their per capita earmarks. Each state's per capita rank is in column one and the per capita dollar value of earmarks is in column six. Column two gives the name of each state or other jurisdiction. Column three reports the total number of earmarks received. And column four reports the total dollar value of each state's earmarks. Since rank by total value is much different than rank on a per capita basis, column five records each state's rank by total value. A large population state like Texas ranks fifth in the total value of earmarks but a distant forty-second in the per capita value.
