Minorities are the new majority in Texas. Historically since 1850, a majority of the state's inhabitants were non-Hispanic whites. But the rapidly growing Hispanic segment of the population, African-Americans, and persons in the "Other" category, especially Asians, edged up to the 50 percent mark by the 2000 Census and today are a growing majority.
