This map of Texas shows the distribution of oil and gas production by county in barrels of output per person. Gas production has been converted to barrels for purposes of aggregation using its energy content to define equivalence. Petroleum production, as the map shows, is no longer concentrated in east Texas where the oil business was born in the state. It is particularly concentrated in west Texas with activity also in south Texas.
