This table lists the filing requirements for most state-created offices in Texas. The first column indicates the offices for which general primary election filing requirements are provided. The second and third columns indicate whether Democratic and Republican party nominees file an application with the state or county party chair. The fourth column reports the filing fee for each office. The fifth and sixth columns describe the conditions a nominating petition submitted in lieu of the filing fee must meet. These require that the number of signatures must be at least a certain percentage (2 percent) of all votes for the gubernatorial candidate of the filing candidate's party in the relevant territory in the last election or a fixed number of signatures, whichever is smaller. The last row of the table reports the sections of Texas Election law that describe the provisions summarized in each column of the table.
