Position Summary:
The Advocacy Intern will play an important role in supporting Any Baby Can’s policy and advocacy efforts. This internship offers hands-on experience in policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and grassroots advocacy, along with insight into the legislative process and the impact of public policy on children and families.
Time Commitment:
- Fall Semester 2026 (Approximately 13 weeks, accounting for university breaks).
- Minimum 16 hours per week.
- Flexible/Hybrid. Coordination with class schedule to ensure consistent availability during business hours (8 am–5 pm, Monday–Friday).
Key Responsibilities:
Under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Public Relations, the intern may engage in the following projects:
- Research and track relevant legislation, policy issues, and bills filed directly affecting young children and families.
- Assist in preparing testimony, attending committee hearings, and facilitating communication between the agency and legislative offices.
- Draft advocacy alerts, social media content, and fact sheets to mobilize our leadership team, Board of Directors, and Parent Advisory Committee.
- Distribute marketing materials and signed letters/testimony as needed to offices in the Texas Capitol.
- Assist in organizing advocacy events and fostering relationships with community partners.
- Provide administrative support related to advocacy workflows, scheduling, and project documentation.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate or graduate student in social work, political science, sociology, public health, law, communications, or other relevant fields.
- Available for a consistent work schedule during operating hours of 8 am–5 pm for approximately 16 hours per week, with flexibility to accommodate class schedules.
- Enthusiasm for and positive representation of Any Baby Can’s mission, goals, and culture.
- Ability to meet deadlines and communicate project progress and results.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to represent Any Baby Can to all types of audiences, and to exhibit a diplomatic and positive presence.
- Strong relationship-building skills and ability to collaborate effectively with others. Must be based in the Austin area with reliable transportation to attend in-person activities as needed.
