Job Description
APAPA-ATC Summer Internship Program is designed to prepare college students to become future leaders, to: • Develop political awareness and civic engagement • Familiarize with government and legislative processes • Practice networking and teamwork in professional environment • Apply technical skills in public services • Applicants will be selected on the basis of: • Demonstrated leadership & community services • Commitment to the 6-week + program (plus training sessions) • Willingness to give back to the community in the future • Interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills. • Skill sets needed by specific public offices
Application Instructions
Eligibility: Open to all Texas resident undergraduate and graduate (plus exceptional high school senior) students. • Deadline: Applications are open in early Dec 2019 and due by March 14, 2020 • Program length and stipend • Orientations & Trainings will be held in May 2020 (often weekends). • The six-week program runs from June through August 2020. • Interns will receive a scholarship in the amount of $500 upon successful completion (including internship report & graduation ceremony). • Students are responsible for housing, transportation and insurance. • Requirements • Be available to attend all workshops, which include leadership training, public speaking, voter registration, census 2020, etc.. • Complete 30 volunteer hours for APAPA Austin TX Chapter. • Work for a minimum of six full weeks in your assigned office. • Signed application form, resume, personal statement (or cover letter), and liability waiver, photo / video release form.
