Communications Intern
Position Summary:
The Mexican American Legislative Caucus (MALC) is seeking a motivated, creative, and detail-oriented Communications Intern to support the Caucus's communications and digital efforts. MALC works to advance policies that improve the lives of Latino Texans and supports its members through legislative advocacy, communications, and coalition-building.
The Communications Intern will work closely with the Digital Content Producer and Executive Director to help produce digital content, support media efforts, and amplify the work of MALC and its members during the interim and legislative session.
This internship is designed to be a hands-on learning experience, offering exposure to political communications, digital storytelling, and legislative advocacy.

Duties & Responsibilities:
As the Communications Intern, responsibilities may include:

Assisting with drafting social media content, including posts, captions, photos, and short videos

Supporting the creation of graphics and visual assets for use across social media platforms

Helping draft media advisories, press releases, newsletters, statements, talking points, and other communications materials

Monitoring media coverage related to MALC and its members

Assisting with digital promotion of events, press conferences, and policy initiatives

Supporting content organization, archiving, and asset management

Working collaboratively with the policy team to help message policy issues clearly and effectively

Performing other duties as assigned by the Digital Content Producer or Executive Director
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills

Interest in digital communications, political messaging, or public affairs

Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and ability to work well with staff and stakeholders

Familiarity with social media platforms and digital tools preferred

Experience with graphic design, video editing, or photography is a plus
Preferred Workdays, Hours, & Compensation:

$22/hour, part-time – 15 hours per week

Flexible schedule during weekdays, coordinated with MALC staff

Spring Internship (February – June) or Fall Internship (August – December)
Work Environment:
This internship requires in-person work in Austin, with some flexibility depending on assignments and scheduling. Interns should expect occasional evening or weekend hours during events or rapid-response.
