Constituent Services Internship
OVERVIEW: The Office of Senator Nathan Johnson is accepting applications for two (2) Constituent Services Interns for the Fall 2025 semester in our Dallas District Office. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public service, legislative research, and communications. Interns will play an important role in supporting the daily operations of the district office and will be exposed to a variety of state and local policy issues.
Applicants must be current college students enrolled in an accredited university; high school students are not eligible for fall internships. Students from all academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
This internship includes both in-person and occasional remote work. Interns must have access to a laptop, phone, and camera.
JOB TITLE: Constituent Services Intern
DEPARTMENT: Constituent Services
LOCATION: Dallas, Texas
SCHEDULE: Minimum of 15 hours per week during regular business hours (M–F, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.)
DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the District Director and Deputy District Director, interns will support a wide range of office functions including constituent correspondence, administrative tasks, and research. This internship provides valuable insight into the operations of a Texas State Senate office and the legislative process.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
- Answer incoming phone calls with professionalism and courtesy; assist or transfer as needed
- Manage and respond to constituent emails; update contact database
- Provide general office support: greet visitors, scan/print documents, process ceremonial
- requests (resolutions, certificates, etc.)
- Assist in the planning and execution of meetings and events
- Attend staff meetings and other assigned meetings or events
- Track incoming and outgoing mail; ensure timely responses
- Conduct policy research and monitor local/state news relevant to Senate District 16
- Maintain familiarity with Senator Johnson’s legislative priorities and public positions
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Reliable, organized, and self-motivated
- Interest in public policy, state government, or community advocacy
- Critical and strategic thinking abilities
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Prior experience working with the public, such as in customer service, hospitality, or community engagement
- Experience answering phones or providing front-line support
- Prior experience in customer service, research, or community engagement
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Keen attention to detail and willingness to learn
