Job Description: 
The Office of Senator Nathan Johnson is seeking applicants to fill an intern position for Fall 2023. Interns play a significant role in administrative support and communications, learn about the legislative process, and research state issues. Students from all disciplines are welcome to apply. This opportunity is eligible for college credit. The Constituent Service Intern will report to the District Director and Deputy District Director. Interns perform a variety of tasks, including those in the following categories: legislative research, communications, and administrative support. The role of an intern, as well as full-time staff, is to serve the public while learning about the inner workings of a state senator’s office. REQUIREMENTS: • This is an entry-level position. • Excellent understanding of online organizing communications • Critical and strategic thinking • Strong technical writing skills • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: • Maintain Senate District 16 emails and associated database updates. • Answer incoming phone calls and disseminate as needed to staff. • Become well-versed in the member’s legislative priorities and viewpoints on various subjects as it relates to Senate District 16 or the State of Texas. • Interns may be asked to attend weekly video staff meetings, as well as any other meetings directed by senior staff. • Assist with additional administrative needs (scanning, printing, etc.). • Provide office support; greet visitors; answer phones; process resolutions and certificate requests. • Support District Director and Deputy District Director. • Monitor, track mail, and respond promptly. • Monitor current events, social/community needs, and essential district and state information to advance legislation during the current session and follow interim.
