Democracy Fellow
Democracy Fellows will work to support Common Cause Texas staff in their mission to ensure that every citizen of Texas who wants to vote is able to cast a ballot safely and with confidence. Fellows will help through policy research and public education about the state of voting rights in Texas.
Residence in Texas is required, and applicants may apply from anywhere in the state. Applicants must plan on being available in Austin on January 10th for an in-person orientation (with travel expenses covered. This position will be remote, though some in-person work will be required. Applicants must be over the age of 18 to apply. Non-students are eligible to apply.
Applications are now open and interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis, with an expected start date to be January 10, 2026. Application deadline December 5, 2025.
This is a 15-hour-per-week commitment. Selected Democracy Fellows will receive compensation as follows:
$750 stipend on February 1, 2026
$1000 stipend per month from March 1, 2026 through July 1, 2026.
Over the course of the Fellowship, you will:

Collaborate with local grassroots organizations in your community to host and lead Election Protection trainings through both virtual and in-person events

Sharpen your skills in volunteer management, event planning, public speaking, and community organizing, all while defending voting rights and helping strengthen democracy in Texas through our grassroots election protection program and civic education program

Gain experience creating graphics, videos, blog posts and gathering multimedia content.
The desired outcomes of the fellowship are:

Election Protection: Recruit, train and manage volunteers in your community through virtual and in-person trainings.

Social Media Content Creation: Develop content for platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn to educate, inform, and engage our followers. This fellowship will heavily focus on TikTok content creation.

Video Editing: Create captivating video content to distribute on social media platforms. Learn how to cut clips, add sound effects, music, text and more.

Marketing Initiatives: Design merchandise for our webstore and collaborate on marketing strategies to promote our products.
An ideal candidate has:

A passion for democracy and voting rights

Experience or skills in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers.

Ability to organize and execute events, including in-person and virtual training sessions.

Confidence in engaging with college students and community members to promote voter participation.

Ability to troubleshoot issues that arise during election periods and provide real-time assistance.

Experience working with local organizations and student groups to drive volunteer efforts.

Proficiency in creating engaging content for social media platforms, especially TikTok.

Skills in video production and editing for social media.

Marketing: Experience in designing merchandise and developing marketing strategies.

Ability to craft emails, blog posts, and digital newsletters.

Experience in planning and executing online ad campaigns.
