Job Description
Currently we are accepting resumes for the position of District Director. Most jobs during the legislative session are temporary positions, however we are looking to keep this position on staff year round. Previous legislative experience is preferred. A degree is not required, but preferred. Juniors & Seniors will be considered if they are willing to take off the 2015 spring semester. This job will be full time during legislative session, often exceeding 40 hours per week. After the legislative session, in June 2015, you would have the opportunity to work flexible hours around your class hours. The job will start in the beginning of December, but allow 2 weeks off for Christmas break. The District Director is responsible for daily correspondence with constituents regarding their concerns and policy positions, maintaining a database of these requests, and conveying them to Representative Dale. Constituents often need help working with state agencies and the district director is responsible for helping them navigate which agency can resolve their concerns. This job is located in the Austin Capitol office, but will require some travel to the cities of Leander & Cedar Park for meetings. You will be reimbursed for travel, but will need to be able to use your own vehicle. Requirements include: -a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook -an interest in state and local government -professional attire and punctual attendance -knowledge of which basic functions major state agencies perform -an understanding of the difference between federal, state & county policy -an understanding of the legislative process You will receive training for several legislative applications including, Texas Legislative Information System (TLIS), Legislative Draft Request (LDR), Correspondence Management System (CMS), & Legislative Management System (LMS)
