Environment Texas Internship Description We’re looking for students who care about protecting and preserving our planet for future generations. If that’s you, then apply to be an intern with Environment Texas today. As an intern with Environment Texas, you’ll help us educate and engage people on issues like solar energy, air pollution, and the democratic process, all in an effort to protect the environment. Whether it’s by getting the issue into the media, helping to grow our coalitions, or organizing events, you’ll be helping us build the public support it takes to win. About Environment Texas Environment Texas is a citizen-based environmental advocacy project of Environment America: a policy and action group with more than two million members and supporters spread across all 50 states. We promote state policies that put the environment first. Across our national network we’ve won policies that have resulted in more solar and wind power in 22 states, cleaner cars and power plants nationwide, and better protections for our rivers, streams, lakes and drinking water. Working with state offices of Environment America 29 states, we have field presence in 21 of the top 25 media markets and 313 Congressional Districts. We use that reach, along with clear strategies, creative tactics, grit and determination to make a difference for our environment and our families’ health. About our Clean Air Research and Writing Internship This internship focuses on our Texas Clean Air Project. We’re working to reduce illegal air pollution by 50% in Texas over the next 5 years. In 2018, industrial facilities emitted 135 million pounds of illegal air pollution, while the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) took enforcement action against just 1% of illegal air pollution events. These facilities pollute dangerous chemicals that threaten the health and safety of Texans from the Houston Ship Channel to the Permian Basin. As our Clean Air Research Intern this summer, you'll help research and write two separate reports on illegal air pollution in Texas. You’ll help us hold polluters accountable, attend coalition and lobby meetings, secure media attention, and talk to community members and groups about air pollution. Candidates with internship experience are highly considered for our full-time positions after graduation. Interns will have the opportunity to participate in national campaign briefings and activist skills trainings, all while getting in-state experience and mentorship from their lead campaign organizer. Details Internships with Environment Texas are unpaid. Students may receive academic credit from their college or university. Interns work about 20-25 hours a week.
