Job Description

Velocity Government Relations (VGR), a bipartisan aerospace, defense, and emerging tech government relations firm, seeks a dedicated and passionate government relations fellow to provide support on key projects. This person will become familiar with the role VGR has in legislative and policy work in the civil and national security space domains. The VGR fellow will assist the team by covering a variety of events in the Washington, D.C. region, both in person and virtually, to write reports to be distributed to clients and key government leaders. The work is listening and writing executive-level notes, including some analysis as this person gains familiarity with the field, for think tank events, Hill testimony and hearings, federal agency events, and academic events. This is a writing-intensive position. The VGR fellow will also assist the team with promoting activities on the firm’s social media platforms. This fellowship will offer the opportunity to gain valuable government analysis and writing skills, network, and learn about government affairs, regulation, and legislation supporting civil and national security space. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, writing, investigative, interpersonal, and communicative skills, can multitask, and work independently with little supervision, with a strong interest in learning about the legislative process and Capitol Hill.

Fellow Responsibilities: Fellows represent VGR at a variety of space and aerospace-focused hearings and think tank events in the D.C. region, taking executive level notes and preparing those notes to be sent to clients. Fellows aid in tracking the emergence and movement of administrative regulations and laws pertaining to civil and national security space, attend weekly strategy and staff meetings and assist with miscellaneous office tasks and projects as needed. As part of the fellowship, the fellows will collaboratively lead and complete a cohort-driven project designed to deliver a final product by the end of the term that supports the national security and space industry.

Structure: The fellowship is at least 15 hours and maximum 30 hours per week in-person and from the end of August through December 2025 (flexible with start and end dates). Our office is located at 440 1st Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20001, steps away from Capitol Hill. Most events will be in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region. Our fellows make between $17 and $22 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications: Must be at least enrolled as a senior undergraduate or full-time graduate student (Graduate students in space or public policy preferred). Have an interest in government and legislative affairs. Be detail-oriented and can work in a fast-paced environment. Have social media skills (especially Twitter and LinkedIn). Have excellent research, writing, interpersonal, and social media skills, particularly with X and LinkedIn. Previous corporate or government experience is a plus.
