Job Description: 
SUMMARY: Senator César J. Blanco seeks a bilingual, highly motivated, and organized individual with strong interpersonal skills to serve as a Legislative Intern in the Capitol Office, located in Austin, Texas for the fall semester. The Legislative Intern will work directly with the legislative staff to implement the Senator's legislative plan and assist with other capitol office functions as assigned. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & EXPECTATIONS: •Research legislation in various policy areas including health and human services, water, agriculture and rural affairs, natural resources & economic development, border security, and veteran affairs. •Attend relevant briefings, and meetings, and monitor interim committee hearings. •Monitor political and legislative movements, compiling briefing materials on current activity. •Assist with constituent correspondence, meeting with constituents, and communicating with constituents both verbally and in writing in English and Spanish. SKILLS AND ACKNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: • Strong oral and written communication skills. • Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal agencies and departments. • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others. • Thoroughness and careful attention to detail. • Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management.
