Field Associate
Reports to: Field Lead and Campaign Leadership
Location: Austin, TX
Time Commitment: Approximately 5–10 hours per week, with flexible scheduling
About the Role
Field Associates are the boots on the ground of the Steven Brown for Austin City Council District 1 campaign. You'll work directly with the campaign's field team to talk with voters, knock doors, recruit volunteers, attend community events, and help build a grassroots campaign across District 1.
This is an excellent opportunity for students and young professionals interested in campaigns, government, public policy, community organizing, or public service to gain hands-on political experience.
No previous campaign experience is required. Training will be provided.
What You'll Do
- Participate in door-to-door canvassing throughout Austin City Council District 1.
- Speak directly with voters about Steven Brown, the campaign, and issues affecting District 1 neighborhoods.
- Record voter feedback and campaign contact information accurately.
- Participate in phone banking, voter outreach, and Get Out The Vote (GOTV) activities.
- Recruit fellow students, friends, and community members to volunteer with the campaign.
- Attend neighborhood meetings, community events, campaign activities, and candidate appearances.
- Assist campaign leadership with community and organizational outreach.
- Help distribute campaign literature and increase campaign visibility throughout District 1.
- Support canvass launches, volunteer events, and other field operations.
- Share feedback from conversations with residents to help campaign leadership better understand the priorities and concerns of District 1 voters.
- Take on additional field and leadership responsibilities as experience is gained.
What We're Looking For
- Interest in political campaigns, Austin government, community engagement, organizing, or public service.
- Comfortable speaking with people from different backgrounds and listening respectfully to different perspectives.
- Reliable, motivated, and willing to work as part of a team.
- Ability to participate in in-person campaign activities in District 1.
- Some evening and weekend availability, particularly for canvassing and community events.
- Familiarity with District 1 neighborhoods and Austin's East Side communities is a plus.
- Previous campaign, canvassing, organizing, or volunteer experience is welcome but not required.
- Familiarity with NGP VAN or voter-contact tools is a plus but not required.
- Bilingual applicants, particularly English/Spanish or English/Vietnamese speakers, are encouraged to apply.
