Job Description
Are you a pro-union student interested in using your graphic design skills to further the fight for public education? At Texas AFT, we believe everyone deserves a quality education. This is only possible with dedicated and empowered public school teachers. We’re looking for a full-time intern that shares these same values and can bring fresh, creative ideas to the table!
All fellows are expected to work an average of 20 hours a week. Your class schedule MUST allow you to work 20 hours during weekdays during the hours of 8 to 6. Occasional evenings and weekends will be required. You will receive the same paid holidays as Texas AFT employees, including 10 days at Christmas.
Graphic Design Intern Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create and design print and digital materials
- Adhere to brand guidelines and complete projects according to deadline
- Retouch and manipulate images
- Use graphic design software and work with a wide variety of media
- Assemble printed materials as needed
- Collaborate with our Communications Department to develop design concepts
- Receive feedback from the Communications Department and make necessary changes
Requirements:
- Must be a current undergraduate student
- Demonstrated proficiency with the Adobe suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.)
- Understanding of graphic design principles and effective visual storytelling
- Ability to meld unique personal design style with existing brand guidelines to create consistent, cohesive materials
- Experience with a variety of design work, including print materials, website assets, and social media graphics
- Knowledge of digital accessibility best practices (color contrast ratios, typeset readability, etc.) a plus!
