Job Description
The Kirk Watson Campaign Academy (KWCA) is a comprehensive campaign training program hosted by the Travis County Democratic Party every general and midterm election cycle. The mission of the KWCA is to educate, support, and coach young progresive leaders in Travis County, equipping them to run campaigns themselves. Everybody gets their start somewhere, and KWCA Fellows learn directly from Austin politicos, elected officials, grassroots leaders, and many other pillars within our democratic community about the different moving parts of a campaign including field strategy, campaign finance, voter protection, fundraising, event building, and digital organizing. After graduation, KWCA Fellows join a robust alumni network supporting young leaders throughout their careers. The KWCA Fellowship will take place virtually, meeting logins will be sent prior to the first day of training on August 28th 2020. Each day will include instruction from campaign professionals, homework and hands on training with team members. Fellows will also be connected to KWCA Alumni mentors who will provide guidance and support for each fellow. The Kirk Watson Campaign Academy was founded by, and now continues in honor of Senator Kirk Watson, who served the greater Travis County community with distinction for over 20 years as both the Mayor of the City of Austin and in the Texas Senate. His focus on education led him to found the KWCA, and continues today in his new role as the first dean of the University of Houston's Hobby School for Public Affairs.
