Job Description:
The Legislative Study Group (LSG) is seeking multiple Legislative Analyst Interns beginning in January 2024 through the 89th Legislative Session. This full-time, in-person internship in Austin, TX, offers an exciting opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the Texas Capitol.
During legislative sessions, LSG’s primary mission is to provide members with detailed analyses and recommendations for every bill that comes up for a vote in the House. To achieve this, our team of analysts closely follows bills through their assigned committees, evaluates their impacts, and produces comprehensive analyses.
Ideal candidates will be strong writers with a passion for research and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.
Key responsibilities include researching and drafting bill analyses, preparing for and attending assigned committee hearings, and building and maintaining relationships with legislative offices and stakeholders in assigned policy areas. Analysts are also expected to stay informed about trends and developments in their focus areas and take on additional duties as assigned.
Qualified candidates should possess strong research and writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively. The position requires the ability to multitask, meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and work long hours during the Legislative Session. While prior legislative session experience is not required, enthusiasm for learning and engaging with the legislative process is essential.
