We are seeking a highly motivated, bright, and hardworking individual for an internship in the Capitol Office of State Representative Celia Israel. The successful candidate will gain valuable experience while assisting with the day-to-day operations of a legislative office during the interim. Interns are expected to make a time commitment of 20 hours per week during the work week, with occasional weekend events . The internship will begin in mid-September and continue through May of 2018 -- a delightful complement to the 2017-2018 school year. The Intern will perform a range of tasks, ranging from administrative duties to policy briefings, as office needs require. Other duties include letter writing, constituent responses, data entry, social media postings, and representing House District 50 at assorted meetings and events. (Mandatory Qualifications) Successful candidates will: • have completed a minimum of 60 hours of college coursework; • have previous work experience; • have proven oral and written communication skills; • have a working knowledge of the Texas Legislature; • be deadline focused; • be able to work effectively with diverse populations; • be able to work effectively with representatives from government agencies, legislative offices, and advocacy organizations; • have his or her own transportation or the ability to effectively navigate public transportation; • possess intellectual curiosity and an interest in learning complex policy issues; and • possess problem-solving skills. While not mandatory, bonus points will be given to candidates fluent in written and oral Spanish.
