Job Description
SUMMARY: Internships with Senator Miles offer students a unique opportunity to acquire new skills and gain first-hand knowledge of public policy and the legislative process in the Texas Senate. Legislative interns will work directly with the legislative staff to implement the Senator's legislative plan, create and execute casework and outreach goals, and assist with other Capitol Office functions as assigned. Qualified candidates should expect to work at least 15 hours per week.
JOB FUNCTIONS: Work involves research, preparing briefing documents, responding to constituent inquiries, and tracking legislative activities on assigned committee and policy areas. General office duties are expected. Works under the immediate direction of the Chief of Staff or Legislative Director.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS: Strong writing and research skills, analytical reasoning & critical thinking skills, experience and/or coursework in public policy or related field is preferable, self-driven, positive attitude, strong commitment to progressive public policy, ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others, thoroughness and careful attention to detail .
