Job Description
Responsibilities:
• Conduct research on specific legislation as directed by principals
• Maintain an ongoing understanding of political news and current events
• Development of data and resources relating to legislation
• General office maintenance duties
• Create and maintain positive relationships with Capitol staff and members
• Operate reception desk (i.e., answer phone calls, greet clients and visitors, filing)
• Interns will produce and deliver an oral presentation on a topic of their choosing. This report will discuss the relevant context, historic and current legislation, and the political climate on the subject
Required Qualifications:
• Passion for Texas politics and policy
• Experienced in Microsoft office
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Proficient in verbal and written communication
• Ability to conduct responsibilities with autonomy and discipline
Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity creating social media content and strategies
• Experience with legislative language
• Deep understanding of the Texas legislature and lawmaking process
This position is unpaid. The ideal candidate would be available 10-12 hours per week; scheduling and hours are mostly flexible. We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic, professional, and capable individuals. Interns will work closely with a designated mentor and complete various tasks as assigned by principals.
