Job Description

General Information

  • We will accept both part-time (~15hrs/week) and full-time interns. Part-time interns can choose their own schedules.
  • We are currently in a special session and are expecting more special sessions coming up. This will be a busy time for our office and a great way to learn about the legislature. Once the special session(s) end, the legislature will be in interim. This is a time where bills cannot be filed or passed. During interim, we will be on the slower end. 

Internship Outline

1. Answering Phones/Constituent Correspondence 

2. CMS

  • The Constituent Management System (CMS) is the system we use to record constituent grievances and opinions. You will be expected to enter constituent information into CMS. 

3. Assigned Research

  • Policy Analysts and Communication Directors will delegate research related tasks as needed. 

4. Committee Day

  • Senator Bettencourt is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Government. On committee hearing days there are often administrative tasks that you will aid the committee staffers with. 

5. Shadow Positions of Interest in the Office 

  • We want you to get the most out of your internship experience. Please let us know your areas of interest so we can direct you to the appropriate staffers in the office. They will be a learning resource that you can shadow and help out. 

6. General Administrative Tasks 

  • Office managers and the Chief of Staff will delegate office administrative tasks.
