Job Description
Job Description: The Office of Dean Senator Judith Zaffirini is accepting applications for internships at the District Office in Laredo for students seeking experience hands-on experience in public service and state government. Interns will have the opportunity to engage directly with Senate District 21 constituents, support community outreach efforts, and assist staff with district operations, gaining valuable insight into how a legislative office serves the public. This experience provides a practical understanding of government processes and the issues affecting local communities. The work schedule can be flexible; however, candidates should be able to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. Availability MUST be congruent with our hours of operation that are from 8 AM- 5:30 PM. This internship will run from June 15, 2026- August 7, 2026. Interviews will begin the week of June 1, 2026! Applications will not be accepted past May 31, 2026 at 11:59 PM. Preferred Qualifications: -Strong organizational skills. -Excellent writing and oral communication skills. -Professional appearance and attire. -Positive attitude as well as a willingness to learn and take direction. -Personal accountability for work done. Responsibilities: -Assisting with constituent casework. -Conducting policy research. -Assisting in preparing the Senator for committee hearings. -Attending meetings and events related to Capitol business. -Writing letters and memoranda. -Developing potential legislation. -Other duties as assigned.
