Job Description

The Office of State Representative Eddie Morales Jr. is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic undergraduate or graduate student for a part-time, unpaid internship who will work in his Capitol office in Austin, TX, for the remainder of the 89th Session's interim, September through December 2026. Possibility for internship extension to the 90th Legislative Session. 

The internship is a great opportunity for students with an interest in Texas government, public policy, and the legislative process. The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced setting, balancing a variety of responsibilities, collaborating with others, and adapting to changing priorities. Previous internship or professional experience is not required.

 

Duties

  • Attend and notate committee hearings, stakeholder discussions, Capitol briefings, and other legislative meetings as requested.
  • Support office staff with legislative research, analysis, and the development of potential bills, including examining current Texas laws and pending legislation.
  • Help develop and organize briefing materials and other resources for meetings with constituents, government agencies, municipalities, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide front-office support by answering phones, welcoming visitors, and assisting with general administrative tasks.
  • Take on other assignments and responsibilities as directed by members of the office staff.
  • Work collaboratively with other office staff on projects

 

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general office technology
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
  • Familiarity Southwest Texas (District 74) issues
